Picture Frames

Hardwood frames with contrasting spline jointed mitres — a cut above the rest.

Hardwood & Spline Jointed

Our picture frames are built the proper way. Each corner is mitre jointed and reinforced with a contrasting hardwood spline — a traditional woodworking technique that adds both strength and a beautiful decorative detail. The result is a frame that's as interesting to look at as the picture inside it.

Frames That Do Justice to Your Memories

What hardwood is used for the frames?

Our picture frames are made from solid hardwood — typically oak, ash or walnut for the main frame, with a contrasting species used for the spline inserts at the corners. The contrast between the two timbers is what makes the spline detail so visually striking — a dark walnut spline against a pale ash frame, for example, creates a beautiful natural pattern that catches the eye before you even look at the picture inside.

Do the frames come with glass and backing?

Yes — every frame comes complete with clear glass and a hardboard backing, ready to receive your print or photo. They also come with hanging fittings pre-attached to the back so they're ready to go straight on the wall. If you prefer to use your own glass or require non-reflective glass, just let us know when you order.

Can I order a custom size frame?

Absolutely — custom sizes are available for any frame dimension you need. Whether it's a specific canvas size, an unusual print format or a set of matching frames for a gallery wall, get in touch and we'll make them to your exact specification. All bespoke frames are made to order at our workshop in Leek, Staffordshire and delivered anywhere across the UK.

Are these frames suitable as a gift?

They make a wonderful gift — especially when combined with a favourite photo or print already inside. A handcrafted hardwood picture frame is the kind of thing people keep forever and display proudly. We can include a handwritten note with every order and deliver anywhere in the UK, making them ideal as a housewarming, wedding or birthday gift.

The Detail That Makes the Difference

What is a Spline Jointed Mitre?

Mitre Cut

Each corner is cut at a precise 45° angle for a perfectly clean, seamless join — the hallmark of quality framing.

Contrasting Spline

A thin sliver of contrasting hardwood is glued into a slot across each corner, locking the joint and creating a striking decorative stripe.

Built to Last

The spline doesn't just look beautiful — it adds significant structural strength, making these frames far more durable than standard glued mitres.
