What is pressure treated timber and why does it matter?

Pressure treatment forces preservative chemicals deep into the timber fibres under pressure — far more effectively than surface treatment alone. This protects the wood against rot, fungal decay and insect damage from the inside out, giving it a significantly longer outdoor lifespan. All of our pergola kits use pressure treated structural timber as standard, so your structure will stand strong for many years with minimal maintenance.

How difficult are the kits to assemble?

Our pergola kits are designed to be assembled by two people with basic DIY skills over a weekend — no specialist knowledge required. Every piece is pre-cut to size in our workshop so there's no sawing needed on your end. Full step-by-step assembly instructions are included with every kit. Most customers tell us the whole build takes between half a day and a full day depending on the size.

Do I need planning permission for a pergola?

In most cases, a pergola in a domestic garden does not require planning permission in the UK as it typically falls under permitted development rights. However, rules can vary depending on your property type, location and the size of the structure.
